R. Kelly’s estranged daughter is speaking out on the damning allegations against her father that were highlighted in Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly” docu-series.
Joann Kelly, who goes by the stage name Buku Abi, addressed the growing controversy on her Instagram story Thursday, making it clear that her silence was not “careless(ness).”
“I just want you all to understand that devastated is an understatement,” Kelly, 20, wrote. “I pray for all the families & women who have been affected by m
y father’s actions. Trust, I am deeply affected by all of this. However, it had been very difficult to process it all. Let alone gather all the right words to express everything I feel.”
Kelly is one of the embattled artist’s three children with ex-wife Andrea Kelly, who was married to him from 1996 to 2009. Kelly shared that she does not have a relationship with her father, adding that “it has been years since my siblings and I have seen or have spoken to him.”
